LYNCHBURG, Va. – Sophomores
Hedda Gurholt and
Ine Stange posted three-set wins, but William & Mary dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 32-ranked Charlotte on Saturday afternoon at the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center.
How It Happened
- Charlotte (11-4) took the doubles point to open the match, winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.
- The 49ers won in straight sets at the No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles posts to secure the match.
- At the top singles spot, Gurholt rallied for a three-set win over two-time All-Conference USA First Teamer Ruxi Schech. After dropping the opening set, the Tribe sophomore won the final two, 6-2, 6-4, in securing her 11th win of the year. The reigning CAA Player of the Week improved to 6-2 at No. 1.
- Like Gurholt, Stange came back from a set deficit to pick up her eighth win of the year. After splitting the opening two sets at No. 6, the Tribe sophomore topped Kaavya Sawhney in a third-set super tiebreaker, 10-6.
