WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- Big innings from Fairfield late in the game was the undoing for William & Mary as the Tribe fell 8-4 Saturday afternoon at Plumeri Park. The Stags plated two in the seventh, two in the eighth, and three in the ninth, handing William & Mary its second home loss this season.
Carter Lovasz took the loss for William & Mary, his first on the season.
Nate Knowles struck out four and did not allow an earned run in the start, while
Mike Weidinger also punched out four and allowed zero runs on two hits.
Joe Delossantos had a pair of hits, two stolen bases, and scored twice for the Tribe, while
Nate Goranson had a hit and knocked in two men.
Fairfield scored an unearned run in the second and the teams would trade scoreless frames until the Tribe tied the game on a
Max Winters sac fly in the sixth. The Stags plated two in the seventh and two in the eighth to take a 5-1 advantage.
In the bottom of the eighth, RBI singles from Goranson and
Cole Ragone would bring the Tribe within striking distance, but Firfield retained a two-run advantage before tacking on three more runs in the ninth. William & Mary pushed across one run in the ninth, but could not further break into the Fairfield lead.
Up Next: The Tribe will conclude the weekend with a 1:00 p.m. start against Canisius Sunday afternoon at Plumeri Park.
