Lax’s Winning Streak Snapped with 13-7 Setback at Drexel

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The William & Mary lacrosse team had its three-game winning streak snapped with a 13-7 setback at Drexel on Saturday afternoon.
 
W&M (5-5, 1-1) trailed by just one, 5-4, midway through the second quarter, but Drexel (6-3, 1-1) held the Tribe scoreless for a span of more than 21 minutes to pull ahead, 10-4.
 
The Tribe narrowed the margin to four early in the fourth quarter, 11-7, on Sam Van Gieson's second goal of the half, but it was unable to get any closer during the remainder of the contest.
 
Tribe Standouts
Elise Palmer was outstanding in goal and totaled 16 saves with a .552 save percentage to go with a pair of ground balls.
 
Van Gieson led the Tribe offensively with three points (2g, 1a), while Paige Gilbert found the back of the cage and recorded a team-high three ground balls.
 
Defensively, Kathleen Cozzi tallied a pair of caused turnovers.  
 
Inside the Numbers
Drexel outshot the Tribe, 33-24, including a 29-15 margin on goal.
 
The Dragons also owned an advantage on the draw circle, 17-7, posted seven more ground balls, 22-15, and committed four fewer turnovers, 16-20.

The Opposition
Grace Harding (4g) and Bridget Finley (3g, 1a) led the Dragons with four points apiece, while Corinne Bednarik also recorded a hat trick and registered a game-high eight draw controls.  
 
Goalie Jenika Cuocco stopped eight of the 15 shots she faced for a .533 save percentage.
 
Up Next
W&M will return to action when it continues its conference slate against Delaware at Martin Family Stadium next Saturday at noon.
