WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - The bats came alive for Tribe as the Green and Gold downed Charleston 12-3 Sunday afternoon at Plumeri Park. Eight of the Tribe's nine starters recorded at least one hit as the team had 16 knocks to the Cougars' one.
Ben Williamson doubled, homered and knocked in three, while
Joe Delossantos had four hits and scored twice. Freshman
Corey Adams also knocked three hits and drove in a pair of men, while
Luca Danos had three hits and scored once.
Owen Pierce picked up his first collegiate win, allowing one run in three-plus innings of work without allowing a base hit.
Rojo Prarie picked up his second save of the season, tossing 3.0 innings without surrendering an earned run.
The Tribe jumped on Charleston early with a pair of runs in the first. Delossantos led off the frame with a double down the line and scored on Williamson's double to right center.
Lucas Carmichael would knock Williamson in with a groundout to short.
Pierce would allow a lead off walk in the Charleston half of the fourth, and despite Craven retiring the next three batters, the run would come across, cutting the Tribe's lead in half.
William & Mary answered in the bottom half as Adams led off with a single and scored on
Luca Danos' double off the wall in left center. Williamson made it a four-run lead, lifting an 0-1 pitch over the wall in left for his third homer of the season.
In the fifth, Charleston took advantage of four free passes to plate a run, but once again William & Mary answered in the bottom half. Freshman
Tank Yaghoubi singled to center and scored on Adams' two-out double to left.
The Tribe tacked on in the sixth, breaking the game open behind six runs and five hits. Run-scoring hits from Delossantos, Adams, and
Lucas Carmichael highlighted the six-run sixth.
An error would lead to an unearned run in the Charleston half of the seventh. Prarie would retire the final seven men of the game, including all three via the strikeout in the ninth to close out the game.
Up Next: The Tribe will begin a five-game week on Tuesday hosting Norfolk State.
