William & Mary Rolls In Midweek Action

WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - William & Mary scored early and often in a 34-1 win over Norfolk State Tuesday afternoon at Plumeri Park. The Tribe's 34 runs were the second most in program history, topping the 33 runs the team scored against Marist in February.

Luca Danos had a pair of hits and knocked in a game-high five while scoring four runs. Cole Ragone's grand slam in the third inning was the first baseman's third homer on the year.

Garrett Newsome picked up the win in his first action of the season.

Nick Lottchea gave up the only Norfolk State run, striking out three over 3.0 innings of work. Noah Hertzler also struck out three and allowed just one hit over 2.0 innings, while Matt Howat allowed two hits in 2.0 scoreless frames.

The Tribe jumped on Norfolk State early as Ben Williamson tripled in Joe Delossantos to kick off the seven-run first. Luca Danos would drive in three with a bases loaded knock to left center and come in to score the seventh run on a Delossantos single to right.

Norfolk bounced back to plate a run as Justin Journette walked and scored on Steven Shaffer's double to right center in the second.

William & Mary would explode for nine runs in the third highlighted by a Lucas Carmichael RBI single and Ragone's grand slam. The Tribe tacked on three in the fourth on Max Winters' double and a Nate Goranson sac fly.

William & Mary posted three more in the sixth behind an RBI single from Danos. Six more runs would get on the board for the home team in the seventh as Noah Zertuche and Luke Smith swatted run scoring hits. Ryan Bhojwani would lift a bases loaded double into the gap in left center to plate a pair of runs in the Green and Gold's six-run eighth before Kyle Locklear worked a scoreless ninth.

Up Next: Next up for the Tribe is a Trip to Greenville, North Carolina to take on the No. 10 ECU Pirates Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
