Baseball Drops Tight 2-1 Game

WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - For the second straight afternoon, William & Mary fell Saturday in a close 2-1 decision to College of Charleston at Plumeri Park. Three Tribe pitchers combined to strike out nine and allow just seven hits and two walks in the contest.

Lucas Carmichael reached base three times with a pair of hits and a walk and he also scored the Tribe's lone run. Cory Wall struck out four over 2.2 innings, but picked up his second loss of the season.

Zack Tsakounis, the Tribe starter, went 3.2 innings allowing just one run on four hits with four strikeouts. Tom Mayer retired all eight men he faced in the final 2.2 innings of play.

Charleston jumped on the scoreboard in the top half of the first behind back to back hits from Joseph Mershon and Trotter Harlan. The Tribe evened the count in the second as Carmichael led off the frame with a single to center and would later score on a passed ball.

After three straight scoreless frames, Charleston broke the deadlock as three Cougar singles to right would plate a man to make it a 2-1 game. The Tribe would get the tying run to third in the sixth, and to second in the seventh and eighth but could not push a run across.

Up Next: The final game between William & Mary and Charleston will be a noon start time Sunday afternoon at Plumeri Park.
