WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- William & Mary scored early and often in a 33-5 win over Marist Sunday afternoon at Plumeri Park. The mark was the second most in Tribe history, and the first 30-run performance since the 2014 season. The mark was also the most any team in the NCAA has scored in a single game this season.
William & Mary scored in all eighth at bats and had nine, 10, and six-run innings.
Joe Delossantos was one of many offensive stars of the game going 3-4 with four runs scored, four driven in, a pair of doubles, and his first homer of the season.
Nate Goranson also brought home four men and scored three times.
Ben Williamson had three hits, and
Max Winters scored a team-high five times in the ballgame.
On the hill,
Nate Knowles earned his first win of the year allowing zero earned over 3.0 innings pitched. Five Wiliam & Mary pitchers combined to allow just three earned runs and strikeout 10 men.
Matt Howat led the way with four punchouts.
Mike Weidinger and
Carter Lovasz both delivered shutdown innings.
Marist would waste no time getting on the board, using a pair of hits and taking advantage of an error to plate an unearned run. The lead would be short lived as a bases loaded single from
Corey Adams would score Delossantos and
Lucas Carmichael. A
Nick Lottchea RBI single in the second made it a 3-1 game.
William & Mary broke the game wide open in the bottom of the third with a nine-run frame. The Tribe sent 14 men to the plate and benefited from RBI singles off the bats of
Cole Ragone,
Ben Williamson,
Max Winters, and
Noah Zertuche pushing the lead to 12-1.
Marist utilized a base hit, two walks and a sac fly to score a run in the top half of the fourth. Delossantos wasted little time getting the run back with a solo shot to dead center. Niko Amory would hit a solo homer to left making it a 13-3 game in the fifth.
The Green and Gold tacked on in the bottom half of the fifth frame with 10 more runs.
Nate Goranson and
Cole Ragone both had RBI singles, while Delossantos and Carmichael knocked in men with a pair of doubles. Goranson had a two-RBI single to make it a 25-3 game in the bottom of the sixth.
Ryan Bhojwani would single in
Tyler Burke in the Tribe half of the seventh. Bhojwani would produce another run, this time via the sac fly in the eighth.
Luke Smith and
Charlie Iriotakis produced run scoring hits.
Up Next: The Tribe's six-game homestand will continue on Tuesday as the Green and Gold will host George Mason on Tuesday. William & Mary will then travel to take on Old Dominion on Wednesday.
