Jacobs’ Game-Winner Lifts Lax Past Campbell, 14-13, in 2OT

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Sophomore standout Serena Jacobs lifted the William & Mary lacrosse team to a thrilling 14-13 victory in double overtime against Campbell on a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon at Martin Family Stadium.
 
Jacobs scored the game-winner off an assist from Paige Gilbert with 9.5 seconds remaining in the initial 3-minute portion of the second overtime.
 
The closely contested matchup of future CAA foes featured nine ties, while neither squad led by more than two goals at any point.
 
W&M (2-2) utilized a balanced attack offensively as eight different players scored at least one goal.
 
Tribe Standouts
Maresa Moyer led the Tribe offensively with three goals, while Kate Draddy totaled a team-high four points (2g, 2a). Sarah Cipolla (2g, 1a) and Gilbert (2g, 1a) also came up big with three points apiece, while Cipolla totaled a game-high eight draw controls. Gilbert's impressive effort also included three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
 
Caroline Hertzberg filled up the stat sheet with six draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls, while Ainsley Huizenga posted four draw controls.
 
Defensively, Caroline Donovan recorded three caused turnovers and three ground balls, while goalie Marin Wilhelm allowed just five goals in nearly 41 minutes of action.
 
Inside the Numbers
W&M outshot CU, 31-27, including a narrow 21-20 margin in shots on goal.
 
The Tribe was dominant on the draw circle (20-13), while the Camels held a narrow edge in ground balls (21-19) and committed one fewer turnover (21-22).

The Opposition
Sam Bischoff (5g) and Rasa Welsh (4g, 1a) led Campbell (2-2) with five points apiece, while Bischoff also added a team-high four draw controls.
 
Defensively, Rebekah Taylor totaled a team-best three caused turnovers and five ground balls.

W&M will look to extend its winning streak to three games when it hosts VCU at Martin Family Stadium on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Admission is free.
