McRae Earns Win 500 As Tribe Dominates Marist

WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- A long delay was worth the wait as head coach Mike McRae celebrated his 500th career win in the Tribe's 10-1 defeat of Marist. In classic McRae fashion, efficient pitching was what led the Green and Gold past the Red Foxes.

Three William & Mary hurlers combined to allow one run on just four hits and record eight strikeouts in the evening. The Tribe only allowed seven base runners and benefited from three double plays.

Brian Craven picked up his second win this week as the sidearmer struck out four over the game's opening three innings. Owen Pierce allowed just one hit and induced a pair of double plays in the middle third, while Rojo Praire picked up his first save of the year with a pair of strikeouts over 3.0 innings of work.

The bats were clicking early as William & Mary scored four in the first, three in the second, and one in the third. Ben Williamson filled up the stat sheet with three hits, three runs scored, and two RBIs while Lucas Carmichael knocked three hits of his own and drove in a trio.

Craven retired the visitors in order in the first and the Tribe wasted no time getting on the board in the bottom half. The first three men would reach and Carmichael would knock in a pair with a double to left center. Max Winters would follow with an RBI single before Carmichael stole home to give the Green and Gold a 4-0 lead.

Jerry Barnes III would lead off the second with a single and late score on a Marist error. Williamson and Winters would follow with a pair of RBI singles to make it a 7-0 game. The Red Foxes would get on the board, scoring once on a pair of hits in the third. Corey Adams would walk to lead off the third and later score to bring the lead back to seven.

After a quiet four innings William & Mary found the scoreboard again with a two-spot in the eighth behind a Williamson RBI double and Carmiachael's RBI single.

Up Next: The Tribe and Red Foxes will conclude the three-game set with a Sunday matinee set for a 1:00 p.m. start time tomorrow afternoon.
