Women's Tennis Sweeps Morgan State, 7-0

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary women's tennis recorded its second-straight sweep, blanking Morgan State, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
 
How it Happened
- The Tribe (4-1) won the doubles point without dropping a game at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Graduate student Sofiya Kuzina and sophomore Ine Stange improved to 3-0 on the year, giving W&M the early lead with a win over Anabel Aran and Ana-Lei Kalawe on line three.
- Senior Elisa Van Meeteren and sophomore Emma Fernald won for the second time on the week at No. 2, upending Lauryn Hall and Averiana Mitchell. The duo improved to 4-3 on the season.
- Freshman Emma Pell continued her strong spring, winning her sixth in a row. She dropped just one game in a dominating 6-0, 6-1 over Natalie Switschnik at No. 6. The Tribe rookie upped her ledger to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in duals.
- Kuzina wrapped up a perfect weekend with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Averiana Mitchell at No. 3 to increase the Tribe lead to 3-0. It marked her eighth win of the year as she moved to 2-0 on line three.
- Fernald clinched the Tribe victory for the second time this season, rolling to a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Lauryn Hall at No. 4. She ran her record to 10-4 overall and 3-1 at No. 4.
- Stange notched her sixth win of the year, topping Anabel Aran, 6-4, 6-3, on line five. She improved to 2-1 in dual-match play.
- Sophomore Hedda Gurholt and Van Meeteren rounded out the Tribe sweep with three-set wins at the top two singles positions. Gurholt improved to 3-1 at No. 1 with her eighth win of the year over Hannah Smith. Van Meeteren posted a come-from-behind three-set win over  Asmara Rose for her 10th win of the year. She is now 2-0 at No. 2.
 
Up Next
The Tribe hits the road next week, traveling to Big Ten foe Maryland on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 10 a.m.
