- Penn State (9-1) captured the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead behind wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.
- The Tribe (2-3) came out strong in singles forcing tiebreakers in the opening set at the top two positions. Senior
George Davis dropped a close one, falling in a pair of tiebreaker sets to Charl Morgan, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (2), at the No. 1 post.
- Graduate student
Joseph Brailovsky battled tight with Loren Byers at the No. 2 position. The Nittany Lion sophomore outlasted Brailovsky, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
- Penn State's Miko Eala and Sam Bossem picked up straight-set wins at No. 3 and No. 4 to push the Nittany Lion lead to 3-0 before the home team's wins at the top two singles positions.
