WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary Volleyball extends their win streak to three and remains undefeated at home with a 3-1 (15-25, 25-15, 25-17, 25-22) victory over Elon on Saturday.
The Tribe reached double digit wins, improving to 10-7 on the season and 5-2 in the CAA, while the Phoenix fell to 3-13 and 0-7 in the CAA.
The Tribe totaled nine service aces in the match.
Amy Schwem accounted for a career-best four aces, matching
Taylor Burrell and
Sabrina Malcolm's single-match high on the season.
Elon jumped out to a set advantage, taking the first, hitting 50% as a team. The visitor had 16 kills compared to just one error.
W&M rallied behind a fast start to the second set. The Tribe jumped out to a 5-1 lead on the strength of a couple blocks. After Elon closed to within 14-13 on a block, W&M seized control thanks to six-straight point. As part of the run,
Lindsay Kahren collected three aces, and the Tribe went on to win the set, 25-15. W&M hit a solid 33% in the second set with nine kills and just two errors.
Just as they had in the second set, W&M jumped out to a fast start, leading 4-0 after a
Taylor Burrell kill. The visitor rallied to pull even at 12 behind a 4-0 run sparked by two Lindsey Harris blocks. Burrell added consecutive kills to reestablish the two-point advantage.
Leading 18-16, the Tribe ripped off seven of the set's final eight points.
Sabrina Malcolm notched a pair of aces, before a block from
Olivia Esposito and
Eleanor Stothoff gave W&M a 25-17 third-set win.
In the final set, Elon jumped out to the quick lead, scoring the set's first three points. The Phoenix lead was 6-2 after Cameron Lanier kill.
Back-to-back Esposito kills drew the Tribe within 9-8, but Elon answered with a 6-1 run. A Sydney Love kill gave the visitor at 15-9 lead.
W&M battled its way back and closed to within 17-16 on a Burrell ace.
An Esposito block tied the match at 18 as part of an 8-2 run as the Tribe flipped the lead to set point. Arnason, Esposito and
Emma Minnick added kills, before
Sarah Callender's hammer extended the Tribe's lead to 24-20.
After Elon drew within 24-22, Burrell put the match on ice with her team-leading 12th kill. The Tribe hit an impressive 38.2% in the final set, recording 15 kills compared to two errors.
