Volleyball Drops Weekend on Long Island

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Despite some strong offensive showings by William & Mary volleyball in Sunday's contest, the Tribe fell in straight sets to Stony Brook, 3-0 (25-19, 23-25, 20-25).

Dropping to 12-12 on the season and 7-7 in the CAA, the Tribe sit even with the Seawolves' 7-7 CAA record as they improve to 12-13 on the year.

Emma Minnick posted her second double-double of the weekend with 19 assists and 10 digs and Sarah Callender led the charge on the attack with 11 kills.

The opening set was evenly matched, as the teams battled to remain within three points to a 14-14 tied score, but the Seawolves took the lead on a 5-0 run. Unable to dig out of the hole, the Tribe added four more kills, but Stony Brook remained ahead for the set victory.

The Tribe jumped out to an early lead in the second set on three Stony Brook attack errors. A pair of kills from Callender and two more from Maddie Meyers and Katherine Arnason held onto the Tribe's lead as the teams traded points.

With 10 tied scores, W&M was able to keep their edge in a close set, but the Seawolves took their first lead of the frame with their 14th point.

In what was a back-and-forth battle through three sets, the Green and Gold looked like they may capture with a win in the second frame, but the Seawolves pulled ahead late.

The Seawolves took a final lead in the decisive third frame on 5-0 scoring run and extended their lead to four on a 4-0 run.

Callender and Sabrina Malcolm each added three kills in the final frame, but Stony Brook was able to cap the match with a kill from Leoni Kunz.
