BUIES CREEK, N.C. – William & Mary men's soccer fell short of a late comeback at Campbell (3-5-4, 2-3-2 CAA) as the Camels picked up a 2-1 CAA victory in Buies Creek on Saturday night.
Senior
Daniel Salom scored the lone goal for the Green and Gold, picking up his second of the season in the final 15 minutes, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Camels' offensive effort.
W&M (2-8-5, 1-4-2 CAA) was even with the hosts in shots on goal at four apiece, but Campbell's Sean Ellis was steadfast in the net for the Camels, making three saves to quell the Tribe's attack.
Three of the Tribe's on-target shots came in the first half.
Aidan Morrison sent one to the center of the net in the 8
th minute for the first shot on goal of the game for either team.
Evan Rabush fired one in the 22
nd minute and Morrison recorded another SOG in the 30
th minute, but each of the Tribe's first-half attempts were answered with saves by Ellis.
Campbell got on the board first, scoring off the foot of
Cole McNally in the 31
st minute. At the half, the Tribe were trailing by one.
McNally made a pair of saves at the hour-mark and in the 71
st minute to hold the single-goal deficit, but Campbell squeezed a third attempt past McNally for a 2-0 lead.
In the 76
th minute, David Salom rocketed one past Ellis from 25 yards out to get the Tribe on the board and cut the deficit to one.
William & Mary took a pair of free kicks in the 87
th minute, but Campbell held onto their lead for a 2-1 final.
