WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Freshman
Webb Kosich scored in the opening half and William & Mary men's soccer played to a 1-1 draw with Longwood on Tuesday evening at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.
The Tribe controlled the majority of the game and broke through in the 30th minute. Off a turnover, senior
Alexander Levengood flip the ball to Kosich inside the box. The rookie striker ran onto it and touch around the goalkeeper before finishing to the center of the goal from a severe angle and five yards out. It was Kosich's second goal of the season and Levengood's second assist.
The Lancers answered off a set piece with just 1:48 remaining. After earning a free kick just outside the top left side of the penalty area, Gonzalo Corrasco served the ball to the back part of the six where Drew Messick headed it home to tie the game at one.
W&M outshot Longwood, 11-3, on the evening, including a convincing 7-1 advantage in chances on goal. The Green and Gold generated five corner kicks compared to three for the Lancers.
Freshman
Lucas Caldas had a couple of quality looks in the opening half, but Alexandre Durand was put to the task in both the 13th and 22nd minutes. Caldas led W&M with three shots, all on goal.
In the 68th, Levengood had a chance off a nice centering pass, but his toe poke from eight yards out went high of the frame.
Durand, who finished with six saves, made big stops for the Lancers in the 76th and 85th minute. The former came off the foot from graduate student
James Bradley whose bending ball from the left wing was punched way from the Longwood GK. With five minutes remaining off a quick free kick, senior
Nathan Messer had space along the top of the 18, but Durand smothered his shot toward the right part of the frame.
