WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Senior
Alexander Levengood's diving header in the 81st minute answered Delaware's equalizer in short order and lifted William & Mary to its first Colonial Athletic Association win of the season, 2-1, on Saturday night at Martin Family Stadium at Albert Daly Field.
After the Tribe led 1-0 at the half, the visiting Blue Hens (1-3-1, 0-2 CAA) found the equalizer in the 80th minute. Florian Phlepsen's longball beat the Tribe defense over the top and found Sam Donnellan, who scored into the right side of the goal from a severe angle and six yards out, knotting the game at one.
The Green and Gold (1-2-2, 1-1 CAA) needed just a minute and 25 seconds to find the game-winner. Seniors
Diba Nwegbo and
Alfredo Bozalongo combined on the right side of the 18 with the former sending a beautifully-placed cross to the six. Levengood got on the end of it with a diving header, sending it past UD goalkeeper Adam Vik to give W&M a 2-1 lead.
In the opening 45 minutes, the Tribe generated a number of dangerous opportunities before finally cashing in just over three minutes before the intermission. Following a failed corner kick, sophomore
Jack Crocco tracked down the ball and served it to the back side of the six where Levengood headed it down. Senior
Nathan Messer cleaned it up inside the six, scoring underneath Vik to give W&M a 1-0 lead.
