Men's Soccer Rolls Past Mason, 3-0

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Senior Alexander Levengood score twice and junior Joe Core added the game-winner as William & Mary cruised to a 3-0 win over George Mason on Tuesday night at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.

The Tribe (3-2-4), which ran its unbeaten streak to six matches, wasted little time jumping on top as Core followed up a rebound in the seventh minute. Senior Diba Nwegbo started the play with a shot from the top of the 18 that was pushed off the right post by Mason goalkeeper Jake Langley. Core touched in the rebound in from six yards out for his first goal of the season.

W&M led by a 1-0 score line after the opening 45 minutes and had numerous chances to increase that margin in the opening minutes of the second half. Senior Nathan Messer had two great opportunities, including a shot off the post in the 57th minute.

The Green and Gold finally broke through the second goal in the 66th minute as a great sequence of passing from Messer and Nwegbo gave Levengood a tap-in goal. Dribbling through the midfield, Messer set Nwegbo free down the left flank with a nicely-weighted ball past a Mason defender. Nwegbo added an equally impressive pass with a diagonal ball past the GMU goalkeeper into the six, where Levengood tapped it home.

Levengood added his second goal seven minutes later to provide the final 3-0 margin. Senior Marcos Villeda and freshman Webb Kosich combined on the left side of the pitch, before Villeda fed Levengood into the penalty area. The senior midfielder's shot beat Langley to the near post from 10 yards out.

It marked Levengood's third career multi-goal game, while Nwegbo posted two assists for the second time in the last three matches. The senior striker leads the CAA with six assists. Messer, Kosich and Villeda each notched their first helpers of the year.

Defensively, W&M posted its fourth consecutive shutout as graduate student goalkeeper Danilo Nikcevic tallied a pair of saves.

The Tribe outshot Mason, 16-6, including an 8-2 margin on goal. W&M also added seven corner kicks compared to one for GMU (2-6).
