WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – No. 17 William & Mary scored early and often on the way to a dominating 7-1 win over Central Michigan on Sunday afternoon at Busch Field.
Graduate student
Aidan Rossman and senior
Lauren Curran led the way with two goals apiece. Rossman added a pair of assists as did sophomore
Pyper Friedman.
The Tribe (6-3) scored twice in the opening six minutes to get off to an early lead. Curran opened the scoring at the 3:09 mark with a shot from the middle of the penalty area to the far post.
Less than three minutes later, senior
Audrey Domovich scored her first career goal off a shot from the top of the circle on a penalty corner. Friedman and Rossman picked up their first assists of the day on the play.
Rossman and Curran combined for the third Green and Gold goal, giving W&M a 3-0 cushion at the half. In the 20th minute, Rossman took a quick restart along the left endline before centering a pass to Curran who scored her seventh goal of the season over the Chippewa goalkeeper.
W&M scored twice in both the third and fourth periods on the way to its most goals since tallying seven against Georgetown in 2019.
In the 34th minute, Rossman scored her first goal as a member of the Tribe as she collected a rebound and ripped a shot to the left side boards from the right side of the area. Two minutes later, it was senior
Sally Snead tipping in a pass from graduate student
Aubrey Scott King to increase the Tribe margin to 5-0.
After her initial shot was stopped by the CMU goalkeeper in the 50th minute, Friedman collected her own rebound and fed across from classmate
Kellen Richbourg for her first goal of the season. Just over a minute later, Rossman added her second of the game off another rebounded shot.
The Tribe held a substantial 26-5 advantage in shots, putting 13 of those attempts on goal. Curran led W&M with five shots, while Friedman added four.
Junior goalkeeper
Maddie George made three saves without allowing a goal in the opening 45 minutes. Sophomore
Allie Mercer saw her first career action in goal for W&M, playing the final 15 minutes.
