STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Freshman
Ivey Crain gave William & Mary a halftime lead, but the home side Stony Brook answered in the opening minutes of the second half as the teams played to a 1-1 draw in the CAA opener on Thursday night.
The Tribe (4-4-2, 0-0-1 CAA) took a 1-0 lead into the break as Crain scored her fourth goal of the season in the 36th minute. On the play, junior
Elaina Longjohn won the ball along the left wing and centered a pass to Crain along the top of the 18. The rookie striker rifled a shot off the underside of the crossbar and in to give the visitor the lead. It was Longjohn's first career assist.
Stony Brook (3-5-2, 0-0-1 CAA) pulled even early in the second half. The Tribe defense blocked a pair of shots off a Stony Brook corner kick. Unfortunately, Kerry Pearson collected the loose ball and found Reilly Rich, who finished with a low shot to the right side of the goal.
W&M outshot the Seawolves 15-9, putting eight chances on frame compared to four for the home team. Crain led the Green and Gold with seven shots, including three on goal.
Senior goalkeeper
Zoe Doughty tallied three saves in net for the Tribe, while her counterpart, Nicolette Pasquarella had seven.
