Tribe Cruises To Doubleheader Sweep

PITTSBURGH, PA. - William & Mary volleyball completed a two-match sweep Friday in western Pennsylvania. The Tribe took down Robert Morris before traveling to Duquesne and downing the Dukes. The Green and Gold will look to complete the perfect weekend with an 11:00 a.m. match with Canisius tomorrow morning. 
 
Sarah Callender's second straight double-double and Kaitlyn Ferguson's season-high 14 kills on .367 hitting led William & Mary to a 3-1 win over Robert Morris Friday morning. Callender hit .364 with 11 kills and 10 digs, adding six of the Tribe's nine service aces. 
 
Sabrina Malcolm chipped in seven kills on a .429 clip with three blocks, while Nicole Smith also seven kills and had two blocks. Anna Porter led the Tribe with 17 digs and had zero errors on 25 service receptions, and Maddie Meyers had eight kills and six digs. 
 
Freshman Olivia Esposito hit .444 with five kills and a pair of blocks and setters Emma Minnick and Amy Schwem dished out 26 and 18 assists respectively. The Tribe had a .267 hitting percentage as a team in the four-set win.
 
Service aces from Malcolm, Porter, and Callender, combined with four service errors from Robert Morris helped the Tribe to a 25-22 first set win. Callender was terrific with three kills on three attempts and led the team with five digs, while Malcolm and Ferguson also added three kills in the opening frame. 
 
Ferguson exploded for five kills in the second frame and Callender added another three, but it was not enough as Robert Morris battled back to take a 25-21 decision. The hosts hit .370 in the set to even the match up after two. 
 
The Green and Gold bounced back in a big way winning 11 of the first 13 points of the third set. The Tribe cruised to a 25-11 win in the third behind a .389 hitting percentage. Meyers produced four kills in the frame and Callender was incredible from the service line with four aces. 
 
Late in the fourth, Robert Morris held a 21-19 lead, but the Tribe would go on a 5-0 run and Ferguson would punctuate the match with a kill to end a 25-22 final set and give William & Mary the win. The Tribe defense stepped up in the clinching set holding Robert Morris to a .077 hitting percentage. 
 
In the second match of the day, the Tribe trailed Duquesne 23-19 in the opening frame, but would rattle off six straight points to win the set 25-23. Eleanor Stothoff was instrumental in the Tribe's success with six kills, while Callender had three of her own. 
 
Momentum carried over to the second set as the Tribe took five of the first six points of game two. William & Mary would roll to a 25-12 second set win behind a .400 hitting percentage. Esposito and Stothoff would team up to block the attack on the clinching point as the defense was strong all set, holding the Dukes to .000 hitting. 
A back and forth third set would fall in the Tribe's favor by a 25-20 score as the Green and Gold would separate late to complete the sweep. William & Mary hit .289 in the final frame, holding Duquesne to a .154 clip. 
 
Stothoff continued to dominate throughout the match finishing with a season-high 15 kills on .500 hitting, while Malcolm also hit .500 with 11 kills. Callender had six kills and 12 digs and Porter led the way defensively with 14 digs to hold the Duquesne offense to a .115 hitting percentage over the match. Schwem had a season-high 19 assists to go with an ace and six digs.
