Tribe Dominant In Three-Set Win

WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- UNCW had no answer for William & Mary on either side of the net as the Tribe dominated the Seahawks in an impressive three-set victory Sunday afternoon. The Green and Gold hit .293 in the match while the visitors only produced a .060 hitting percentage. The Tribe never trailed in sets one and three.
 
Taylor Burrell led the way offensively hitting .520 with a match-high 14 kills, three blocks, and three aces. Sarah Callender continued her fantastic freshman campaign with 10 kills hitting .312 and seven digs to go with a pair of aces. 
 
Ryann Love led the team with six total blocks while fellow middle Sabrina Malcolm chipped in three blocks and five kills hitting .400 on the afternoon. Eleanor Stothoff and Nicole Smith each recorded six kills. 
 
Anna Porter had 16 digs in the three sets and did not commit a single reception error on 24 chances, while Emma Minnick had 11 digs and 12 assists for her first double-double of the year. Amy Schwem led all setters with 21 assists Sunday afternoon. 
 
Burrell got the Tribe off to a fast start, smoking four of the teams 15 first-set kills. Schwem dished out eight assists in the opening frame and Minnick had six digs. Love's three blocks and Stothoff's four kills helped the Green and Gold to a wire to wire 25-17 opening set win. 
 
Burrell continued to tee off on the UNCW defense with six kills in the second set and Callender came alive hitting .556 in the frame with six kills of her own. Porter had five digs as UNCW managed to hit .073 in the stanza. The teams traded the lead four times, but William & Mary would prevail with the 25-21 win. 
 
The third set was total domination as the Tribe hit .522 with 13 kills and had an 81% sideout percentage. Stothoff and Malcolm each had a pair of blocks and Porter had seven digs as UNCW hit .000 with just seven kills in the third. Burrell put a punctuation mark on the afternoon with four kills, one on match point to give the Green and Gold a 25-10 set win. 
 
William & Mary will look to capture the momentum from Sunday's win as the team hits the road next weekend. The Tribe will head to Elon for matches with the Phoenix on Saturday and Sunday.
