NORFOLK, Va. – William & Mary men's soccer played Old Dominion to a scoreless draw on Tuesday night at the ODU Soccer Complex.
The Monarchs (2-2-1) held a slim 5-4 advantage in shots on the evening, but the Tribe put three on goal compared to just one for the home team.
Graduate student goalkeeper
Danilo Nikcevic recorded his first career clean sheet. He made a key save in the 80th minute, smothering a low lining shot from Eli Carr to keep the Monarchs off the score sheet.
The Tribe (1-2-3), which is unbeaten in its last three matches, had a two quality chances in the opening 45 minutes, forcing ODU goalkeeper Michael Statham to make challenging stops.
In the 17th minute, senior
Alexander Levengood tried to chip the Monarch keeper from just outside the box, but Statham was able to push the shot over the frame for a corner kick.
With 10 minutes remaining in the opening period, sophomore
Jack Crocco drew a foul to give W&M a dangerous free kick chance 25 yards from goal on the left side. Senior
Alfredo Bozalongo took the shot, but Statham made a diving save to keep the ball just outside the near post.
Both teams finished the game with four corner kicks apiece.
