WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- A rock solid bullpen and timely hitting lifted the Tribe in a 10-4 win over Hofstra Sunday afternoon at Plumeri Park.
Matt Howat and
Carter Lovasz combined to toss six scoreless frames, surrendering just two hits to earn the win and the save respectively. For the second time this weekend
Joe Delossantos went yard, and
Mark Trotta added four hits in the win.
Â
Hofstra got out to an early lead, capitalizing on a Tribe error to score a pair of unearned runs in the first. William & Mary answered with an unearned run of their own in the home half of the first as
Matt Thomas reached via an error and later scored on a wild pitch.Â
Â
In the third, Hofstra would extend the lead with a pair of doubles resulting in two runs. The Green and Gold had an answer as
Tyler Solomon worked a two-out bases-loaded walk to plate a run and
Nate Goranson followed by shooting a ball through the left side of the infield scoring two to make it a 4-4 game.Â
Â
Howat set the Pride down in order in the top of the fourth, and the Tribe took the lead on a pair of two-out hits in the bottom half.
David Hogarth lifted a single into left and scored as
Mark Trotta scorched a double down the left field line. Hogarth took off from first and slid in just ahead of the throw to make it a 5-4 game.Â
Â
After shut down innings from Howat and Lovasz, the Tribe opened up the game in the seventh with a big swing from Delossantos. Trotta singled and
Jack Cone would get hit by a pitch before Delossantos smashed an 0-2 pitch over the scoreboard in left to give the home team a four-run lead.Â
Â
William & Mary gained insurance in the eighth as Trotta's fourth hit of the game, a single to right, would plate
Ben Williamson. A double steal in which Trotta swiped second and Hogarth swiped home would add the second run of the inning.Â
Â
Lovasz worked a one, two, three ninth, and set down all nine men he faced to earn his third save of the season.
