Bats Continue To Click in 8-3 Win

WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - Mark Trotta and Cole Ragone each swatted four hits, and for the second straight game Joe Delossantos went deep as William & Mary defeated Towson 8-3 Saturday at Plumeri Park. With the win, the Tribe has taken the series in each of its first three CAA clashes this season. The team improves to 15-12 overall and 6-2 in league play.

Zach Tsakounis earned his fourth win of the season tossing 4.1 innings and allowing a pair of earned runs. The senior struck out a season-high five batters. The Tribe bullpen continued to be sharp as Mike Weidinger, Nate Knowles, and Tom Mayer would combine to toss 4.2 innings of three-hit ball.

Trotta had four singles in the day and a walk, three of those hits resulted in Ragone coming to the plate. Ragone was 4-5 with four singles and has seven hits in the series through two games.

For the second straight game William & Mary jumped on Towson as the Tribe scored a pair in the first inning. Ben Williamson, Ragone, Jack Cone, and Trotta all singled in the frame to give the home team a 2-0 lead. With two outs, Cone legged out an infield single plating Matt Thomas, and Ragone scored as Trotta ripped a two-strike single up the middle.

Tsakounis would keep the Tigers off the scoreboard and in the third William & Mary pounced on the Towson starter for a four spot. Ragone would single and Cone walked before Trotta's second single of the day brought in Ragone. With a pair on, Delossantos would lift a 1-1 pitch over the wall in left to make it a 6-0 game.

Towson would finally get to the Tribe starter in the fifth as four singles led to a pair of Tiger runs, but Weidinger would come on to retire the side with a strikeout and fly-out to stop the threat. The Tribe struck back in the bottom half. Trotta stroked his third hit of the afternoon and later scored on Nate Goranson's rip to left field.

In the sixth, Ragone's third hit of the day would begin another William & Mary rally. The third baseman would steal second before Trotta's fourth hit of the game would drive in Ragone for the third time making it 8-2 Tribe.

A solo shot from Jack McLaughlin would cut into the Tribe lead in the eighth but Nate Knowles limited the damage and kept the advantage at 8-3. Mayer worked a one, two, three final frame to close out the win.

Up Next: The Tribe will look to finish the sweep Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
