CHARLESTON, S.C.- William & Mary started fast but could not hold on as Charleston took the series finale 7-5 Sunday afternoon. The Tribe jumped out to a 4-0 lead early, but the Cougars closed the gap and eventually took the lead late in the ballgame.
Jack Cone started on the hill for the Tribe, tossing four scoreless frames and allowing just a pair of hits to go with a season high five strikeouts.
Ben Williamson,
Tyler Solomon,
Joe Delossantos, and
Mark Trotta all had multi-hit games for the Green and Gold.
Williamson started the game with a double down the right field line and scored as
Matt Thomas singled to center. The Tribe added two more runs in the second inning as Trotta walked and would score on a single from Delossantos. Delossantos would come around himself on a single from
Phil Conti to make it 3-0.
Trotta and Solomon would single to lead off the fourth frame, and Trotta scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Delossantos making it a four-run game. A pair of hits and a free pass gave Charleston a run in the fifth before the Tribe once again made it a four-run game in the sixth.
David Hogarth would walk to begin the inning and Delossantos would get his second hit and third RBI of the day knocking in the senior.
Charleston's furious comeback would start in the bottom half of the sixth as the home team took advantage of a pair of softly hit infield singles and three walks to score a trio of runs. The Cougars tied the game in the seventh via a solo homer.
In the eighth, a leadoff walk and a pair of Charleston hits gave the Cougars a 7-5 lead and the Tribe could not muster a rally in the ninth.
Up Next: The Tribe will be back in action Tuesday afternoon at Plumeri Park for midweek action against Old Dominion.
