WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Alek Kuzmenchuk, a sophomore standout at William & Mary, is the recipient of the Elite 90 award for the 2022 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championship.
Kuzmenchuk, who is majoring in international relations and currently carries a 3.98 GPA, was presented with the award during the NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championship banquet on Thursday evening in Norman, Okla.
The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.
Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above academically who have participated in a sport for at least two years with their school. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.
Kuzmenchuk is one of a school-record 12 Tribe gymnasts who will compete at the NCAA Championship this weekend. He will compete on rings, parallel bars and high bar during Session II, which is scheduled to begin on Friday at 7 p.m. (CT).
The Bowie, Md., native earned All-ECAC honors on rings and high bar as a freshman last season. Additionally, he earned first-team All-America Scholar-Athlete distinction by the College Gymnastics Association and garnered W&M's Provost Award.
