Bats Stay Hot As Tribe Wins Fourth Straight

ARLINGTON, VA. - William & Mary's offense exploded for 11 runs on 17 hits in an 11-5 win over George Washington Tuesday afternoon in Arlington. Every starter in the Tribe lineup had at least one hit, and Jack Cone, Joe Delossantos, and Ben Williamson led the way with three each. Cole Ragone smashed a pair of two-run homers, and Delossantos hit his third homer in four games to go with a two-RBI single.

Jacob Haney earned first win of the season, tossing 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball allowing just a pair of hits. Randy Prosperi finished the ball game getting six of the seven men he faced out with a pair of punch outs.

For the fourth straight game, William & Mary jumped on the opposition early. Ben Williamson shot a two-strike single up the middle to lead off the game. With a pair of outs, Mark Trotta drew a walk and Cone lifted a pitch off the wall in right center plating both runners.

George Washington immediately responded as Cade Fergus hit a solo homer to lead off the bottom half of the frame. In the top half of the second, Delossantos ripped a 3-2 pitch over the wall in left to make it 3-1 Tribe. The Colonials would load the bases with one out in the second, but a strikeout and a tremendous defensive play by Williamson ended the threat.

Williamson would once again lead off with a single in the third inning and scored on Ragone's rocket to left. With one out and a 1-0 count Ragone jumped on a fastball sending the pitch over the wall making it 5-1 Tribe. George Washington got a run back in the fourth on three hits to bring the home team within three.

The Colonials finally put up a crooked number on the Tribe using four hits to score three runs in the fifth tying the score 5-5. Haney came on and delivered a one, two, three sixth inning, and the Tribe would once again take a lead in the seventh.

Tyler Solomon ripped a one out double into left center and came home on Williamson's third single of the day. On a 3-2 pitch Ragone went deep again, this time to right center for his second two-run blast of the day. Trotta, Cone, and Hogarth would all single to load the bases before Delossantos ripped a hit through the left side plating a pair to make it 10-5.

Randy Prosperi handled George Washington in the eighth and William & Mary tacked on in the ninth. Delossantos led off with his third hit of the game, stole second, and scored on a Max Winters double. Prosperi shut down the Colonials one, two, three in the ninth to secure the win.

Up Next: The Tribe will continue CAA play this weekend as they head to Charleston for a three-game set with the Cougars. The Tribe and the Cougars are knotted at the top of the CAA standings, each with a 7-2 record.
