Campus Gathering Tuesday to Remember Joshua Owusu '20

Dear W&M Community,

It was with deep sorrow and shock that we learned last week of the tragic death of Joshua Emmanuel Owusu-Koramoah, a recent W&M graduate who touched the lives of so many here at his alma mater. A chemistry major who graduated in the Spring of 2020, Joshua was known across campus as a thoughtful, courageous, and caring man. As a student, he was actively involved with the PLUS Program and the Center for Student Diversity, the African American Male Coalition, the William & Mary Tribe football program, and the Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM).  After his graduation in 2020, he remained active on campus, serving as a staff intern for BCM.  His calling to serve others had most recently led him to a teaching position at Hampton Christian Academy.

A campus memorial service for Joshua will take place on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 8:00 p.m. in the Zable Stadium Suites. Members of the W&M community are invited to attend this event which is being hosted by Baptist Collegiate Ministry, the Center for Student Diversity, and W&M Athletics.

On Wednesday, April 13, Joshua's family will receive condolences during a viewing from 12:00-3:00 p.m. at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home in Hampton. Joshua's funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Liberty Live Church, 2551 North Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA.  There will be a pre-service viewing from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the church, and the service will be streamed online.

Joshua's death is a heartbreaking blow to all who knew and loved him. I know you join me in extending deepest sympathies to his family as well as to his HCA students and colleagues; his former football teammates; his many friends, coaches, and mentors; and all those whose lives are better for having known him.

Sincerely,
Ginger Ambler, W&M Vice President for Student Affairs
