Lax Falls to No. 4 Maryland, 19-7

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary lacrosse team fell to No. 4 Maryland, 19-7, at Martin Family Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Although W&M (2-3) battled the fourth-ranked Terps (5-0) to a 2-2 draw in the fourth quarter, it was unable to overcome a 9-0 run by UM that spanned the second and third frames.

Tribe Standouts
Junior Sarah Cipolla led the Tribe with two goals, four draw controls, four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers, while senior Belle Martire also finished with two points (1g, 1a).

Sophomore Caroline Hertzberg also came up big with four draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover.

Inside the Numbers
Maryland outshot the Tribe, 37-28, including a 32-16 margin in shots on goal.

Although W&M owned a 24-20 advantage in ground balls, UM recorded more draw controls (18-11) and committed fewer turnovers (19-10).

Notes
Although Martire had her streak of three consecutive hat tricks snapped, her two points further cemented her position among W&M's top 10 in career goals (128, sixth) and points (149, 10th) … The contest marked the second time in the last three games that W&M has squared off against a top-10 opponent, as it fell to then-No. 6 Duke on Feb. 18 … Sophomore Meg Baxter's goal late in the fourth quarter was the first of her career.

Up Next
W&M will return to action when it hosts American at Martin Family Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m.
