Men's Tennis Win Streak Snapped by #49 Penn

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – In a match-up of nationally-ranked teams, No. 72 William & Mary had its six-match win streak snapped by No. 49 Penn, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Green and Gold (9-5) jumped out to the early lead with wins at the top two doubles positions, capturing the initial point of the match for the ninth time in the last 11 matches. Unfortunately, the visiting Quakers (12-4) responded with a quartet of straight-set singles wins to pull out the team triumph.
 
In doubles, the Tribe's top team of graduate student Harrison Brown and junior George Davis won its sixth match in a row. The duo made quick work of Edoardo Graziani and Jason Hildebrandt, 6-1. Brown and Davis improved to 15-5 overall and 9-4 at No. 1.
 
Graduate student Chen Ruo and senior Joseph Brailovsky clinched the doubles point with a win at line two. The Tribe twosome topped Kevin Zhu and Zachery Lim, 6-2, to up its impressive mark to 17-3 overall and 11-2 on line two.  
 
In singles action, Brown looked on his way to a win at No. 2 before the match was abandoned with the team result decided. Brown took the opening set 7-5 from Hildebrandt and jumped to a 4-1 lead in the second.
 
Up Next: The Tribe continues its homestand when it welcomes CAA foe Drexel to the Mackesy Tennis Center at the Millie West Courts on Tuesday. The match, which begins at 4 p.m., will be part of a men's and women's doubleheader as the Tribe women also host Drexel at 1 p.m.
