WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary men's gymnastics team posted its best performance of the season en route to defeating Springfield, 380.8-369.3, in its home opener at Kaplan Arena on Friday night.
W&M earned the top team score in five of the six events, while it also recorded season highs in five events.
Additionally, a trio of Tribe gymnasts combined to win four event titles. Junior
Aidan Cuy tied for first on vault (14.1, career high) and won parallel bars (13.65, career high), while senior
Christian Marsh (13.55, season high) and junior
Connor Bowman (12.95, career high) posted the meet's top scores on rings and high bar, respectively.
Additionally, Cuy won the all-around title with a career-high 78.05, which ranks eighth in W&M's record book.
Event Highlights
Floor, 63.65 – W&M earned a season high on floor and was led by Cuy's third-place finish (13.05, career high).
Pommel Horse, 59.8 – Marsh led the way on pommel horse and placed third with a 12.55, as the Tribe recorded its best team score of the season in the event.
Rings, 61.95 – Marsh won the rings title with a season-high 13.55, while freshman
Zachary Patrick narrowly missed out on a top-three finish with a 12.6.
Vault, 68.0 – W&M's best score of the season on vault was highlighted by Cuy's 14.1, which tied for first and marked a career high.
Parallel Bars, 64.7 – Tribe gymnasts tallied the top two scores on parallel bars, as Cuy totaled a career-best 13.65, while Marsh earned a 13.3. The duo helped W&M post a season high in the event.
High Bar, 62.7 – Bowman's winning score of 12.95 marked a career high, while sophomore
Sam Lee placed third with a season-high 12.85 to help W&M record a season best in the event.
