W&M has one of those nights in loss at Northeastern

William & Mary was unable to get anything going on either end of the floor in a 62-28 loss at Northeastern Thursday night.

The Tribe shot 21.6% from the floor, 1-of-17 from the 3-point arc, in losing its eighth consecutive game. W&M (5-25, 4-13) clinched the No. 8 seed the Colonial Athletic Association tournament and will play the No. 9 Huskies in the opening round on March 5 in Washington, D.C.

"We're disappointed in our effort," Tribe coach Dane Fischer said. "Northeastern really just dominated the game. They scored around the basket early, and we had a hard time finishing. Then, as the game wore on, I felt like we just never could get on track.

"We never got anything going. We missed some open looks, and it was one of those nights where nothing went well."

Northeastern (8-20, 2-15) hit eight of its first 13 shots and took a 20-6 lead less than 10 minutes into the game. After leading 33-15 at halftime, the Huskies started 3-for-3 in the second half for a 39-15 lead less than two minutes in.

Connor Kochera led the Tribe with nine points. Brandon Carroll was W&M's top rebounder with nine.

The Huskies shot 44.6% from the floor and went 9-of-33 from the 3-point arc.

The Tribe will head to Long Island for its regular-season finale against Hofstra (19-10, 11-5) Saturday at 2 p.m. On Dec. 29 in Williamsburg, W&M beat the Pride 63-62 on Julian Lewis' layup with 10.9 seconds remaining.

"We have to make sure we have a productive day tomorrow, whether that's through film or on the court," Fischer said. "And then, obviously, turn our attention to a really talented Hofstra team that will probably be looking forward to playing us given our last game with them.

"We're going to have to have a short memory about this one. And then get back and work tomorrow."
