Russell, Jacobs Earn CAA Women’s Lax Weekly Awards

RICHMOND, Va. – After helping lead the William & Mary lacrosse team to an exciting season-opening victory at Villanova, senior Lauren Russell and freshman Serena Jacobs earned weekly awards by the Colonial Athletic Association.
 
Russell was selected as the league's player of the week, while Jacobs garnered rookie of the week accolades.
 
Russell posted one of the greatest offensive performances in school history in the win, as she totaled career highs in points (8) and goals (6). Her point total ranks tied for seventh in W&M's record book, while her goal total ranks tied for 10th. Russell's six goals came on just seven shots.
 
Four of her goals came during the final two quarters to help the Tribe rally back from a five-goal halftime deficit.
 
The Denver, Colo., native also added two ground balls and a caused turnover.
 
Jacobs also came up big in her collegiate debut and posted three goals, highlighted by the game-winner with 2:17 remaining, on just four shots.
 
Prior to the game-winning score, she tied the contest with a free position goal with 3:16 on the clock. All three of her scores came during the final 7:41.
 
Jacobs also added a ground ball.
 
W&M will return to action when it plays at Richmond on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
