W&M enters the postseason on a seven-game winning streak and boasts an impressive resume that includes a regular-season school-record 10 wins. En route to posting a 7-1 mark in conference play and earning a share of the league title, the Tribe tallied victories against three nationally ranked teams. Additionally, the Tribe defeated its FBS opponent, Charlotte, in a lopsided 41-24 season-opening victory. Balanced offensively, W&M ranks third nationally in rushing (274.0) and sixth in passing efficiency (169.2). Led by CAA Defensive Player of the Year and Buck Buchanan Award Finalist, linebacker John Pius, the Tribe ranks 16th nationally in scoring defense (20.4) and 19th in sacks per game (2.64). W&M was well represented on postseason All-CAA teams, as 13 Tribe standouts combined to earn 15 all-conference honors.

Gardner-Webb advanced to the second round after earning a 52-41 win at Eastern Kentucky last Saturday. GWU owns a 7-5 overall record, but three of those setbacks came versus FBS opponents. After going undefeated in league play, GWU posted a near sweep of the Big South's major awards and earned a league-best 13 all-conference honors. Quarterback Bailey Fisher (Offensive Player of the Year) and defensive end Ty French (Defensive Player of the Year) highlighted those honored.

Saturday's game will mark the first meeting between W&M and Gardner-Webb.
