WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – After emerging as one of the nation's top cornerbacks, William & Mary redshirt freshman Jalen Jones was selected as a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award, which is presented to the national freshman of the year in college football's Division I subdivision.
 
Jones is one of 25 standouts who garnered the honor.
 
The Chesapeake, Va., native currently ranks tied for 13th nationally with four interceptions and just outside the top 25 with 1.1 passes defended per game.
 
Jones' season stats also include 19 tackles, seven pass breakups, a TFL, a fumble recovery, a pick-six and 61 interception return yards.  
 
Highlighting Jones' remarkable redshirt freshman campaign was his outstanding effort in the win against Campbell when he was selected as the national and conference defensive player of the week after posting three interceptions, including a 33-yard pick-six, and two pass breakups.
 
Following a bye this week, W&M's quest for a national championship will continue when it hosts the winner of Gardner-Webb/Eastern Kentucky at Zable Stadium on Dec. 3 at 2 p.m.
