Volleyball Ends Regular Season with Four Set Loss

BOSTON, MASS.- William & Mary dropped a four-set decision at Northeastern to close out the regular season Sunday afternoon. The Tribe will head to Towson as the number seven seed in the CAA Tournament Thursday.

Taylor Burrell led the team with 11 kills, five coming in the first set of action. Freshman Oliva Esposito recorded seven blocks, while senior Anna Porter had 15 kills in the contest. Amy Schwem produced 22 assists and three service aces, while Emma Minnick dished out 16 assists to go with four digs.

The Huskies started off hot, taking six of the opening seven points in set one. Burrell would lead the Tribe on offense with five kills on six attempts, but Northeastern hit .394 in the opening frame to secure a 25-18 win.

Northeastern took the second set 25-16 in part by holding the Tribe to a .103 hitting percentage. Eleanor Stothoff had three kills in the frame and Esposito batted down three blocks, two assisted by Nicole Smith

William & Mary would not go away quietly as the Tribe fought to a 25-23 third set win to extend the match. Maddie Meyers had a phenomenal set with four kills on seven attacks with zero errors in the set. A pair of blocks from Esposito held Northeastern to .182 hitting.

Stothoff produced four kills in the final frame, but the Tribe dropped a tight 25-23 final frame to close out the match. Meyers added three more kills to give her a total of seven over two sets. Defense was key in the fourth stanza as each team hit .000.

The Tribe will be back in action Thursday as the team makes its first appearance in the CAA Tournament since the 2015 season. The conference championship will be held November 17-19 and hosted by Towson.
