HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – With 1:59 left in regulation on Sunday afternoon, senior
Lauren Curran played hero for No. 25 William & Mary, scoring the day's lone goal and lifting the Tribe to a 1-0 road victory over Hofstra. It was Curran's team-leading tenth goal of the season.
Graduate student
Aidan Rossman got the game-winning play going, shaking off a pair of Hofstra defenders just outside the circle. She then found a wide-open Curran in front of the cage, who quickly spun around to get off the shot and give W&M (8-7, 2-3 CAA) the late lead.
As the seconds ticked down, Hofstra (6-8, 1-3 CAA) did its best to knot the score. Junior goalkeeper
Maddie George held strong between the pipes, however, making an incredible kick save after the ball knocked off several sticks with only moments left on the clock.
It wasn't George's first gasp-inducing play, either. She shut down a Hofstra offensive rush with just under five minutes remaining in the third quarter, stepping up with a poke check to keep the Pride from recording a shot on goal.
Although the teams both drew four corners, the Green and Gold controlled possession for much of the game. W&M racked up six shots on cage, converting on the last, while allowing only one from the Pride.
