BOSTON, Mass. – No. 25 William & Mary field hockey jumped out to an early lead but couldn't hold on down the stretch, falling 5-1 to Northeastern at Dedham Field on Friday afternoon. The Huskies scored five straight, including four second-half goals, and held a 19-6 shot advantage.
Senior
Lauren Curran got the Tribe (7-7, 1-3 CAA) on the board at the 2:53 mark of the first quarter, converting a penalty corner for her team-leading ninth goal of the season. Junior
Allison Goodwin and graduate student
Aidan Rossman notched the assists.
Northeastern (3-10, 2-0 CAA) answered in the waning minutes of the frame when Maria Armaganian scored on a penalty stroke to knot the game at 1-all.
Coming out of halftime, the Huskies continued to control tempo, pressuring the Green and Gold defense. Just over five minutes into the third, Emmy Stubbs gave Northeastern a lead it would never surrender, scoring off an assist from Armaganian. Anna-Kate Domingue then padded the Northeastern lead in the 42nd minute.
Stubbs recorded her second of the game in the 54th minute, with a low shot into the left corner, before Emilia Adragna rounded out the Huskies scoring as the clock wound down.
Offensively, the Tribe had a number of chances, drawing three consecutive penalty corners in the fourth quarter, but could not find the back of the cage. Junior goalkeeper
