Men's Tennis Falls at ITA Kickoff Weekend to No. 2 Baylor

WACO, Texas – William & Mary men's tennis battled No. 2-ranked Baylor on Sunday afternoon before falling to the Bears, 4-0, in the opening round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend.
 
After the Bears won the doubles point with victories at the top two positions, the Tribe responded with strong opening sets in singles action. Seniors Jack Kelly and Joseph Brailovsky both took opening sets at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots.
 
Kelly, who went three sets in the opening match at No. 4 against Liberty, took the first set from Marko Miladinovic, 7-5. The match looked to be headed for a third set with the Baylor freshman leading in the second, 5-3, but it was abandoned with the team result decided.
 
On line five, Brailovsky claimed the opening set, 6-3, from Finn Bass, who was 8-1 in dual-match play last spring for Baylor. The match was abandoned on served at 6-5 in the second set.
 
Juampi Mazzuchi, who transferred to Baylor after being an All-AAC performer at UCF, increased the Bears lead to 2-0, downing senior Daniel Pellerito, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 6.
 
No. 48-ranked Sven Lah, who has been both an All-American and All-Big 12 performer during his career, pushed the Baylor led to 3-0, downing Sebastian Quiros, 6-2, 6-3.
 
At the top singles spot, George Davis locked horns with All-American Adrian Boitan. The reigning Big 12 Individual Champion, who was ranked No. 9 nationally during the fall, edged the Tribe junior, 6-4, in the opening set before clinching the Baylor win with a 6-2 win in the second.
 
Graduate student Harrison Brown took Baylor All-American Matias Soto to a tiebreaker in the opening set. The Bears senior, who was ranked No. 7 during the fall, edged Brown, 7-6 (4) before the match was abandoned in the second set.
 
UP NEXT: The Tribe closes out play in the consolation match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend against ACC foe Clemson on Monday at noon ET.
