Brown Dominates, But Tribe Comes Up Short

Box Score CHARLOTTESVILLE,VA.- Julia Brown's 21 kills and eight blocks were not enough as Akron bested the Tribe in a third set thriller Saturday morning in Charlottesville. The Green and Gold will come home with a 2-2 record for next Friday's match with Hampton.

The Green and Gold came back to tie the score 21-21 and a Julia Brown kill would give the Tribe their first lead with a kill to make it a one-point lead. Tied at 24 a Sabrina Malcolm kill and an Anne Louise Seekford ace gave the Tribe a 26-24 win to even the match.

The third opened up with a Brown kill and block followed by a Sydney Taylor ace to make it 3-0 Tribe. A block from Claire Farrell would cap a 4-0 late run for W&M to open up an 18-13 edge and Brown would take over late with a kill and block to seal a 25-19 set three win.

Brown's 16th kill of the morning made it 6-4 W&M in the fourth and a kill from Laure Merrill opened up a 11-7 lead. Down 22-18 the Tribe rallied to tie it at 22-22, but Akron pulled away for a 26-24 win to force the fifth set.

In a tight fifth the Tribe would take the first lead at the eight to seven mark. The Tribe would gain a two point advantage before Akron tied the score at 10-10. However the Zips would pull away late taking the final frame 15-12 to seal the match.
