Field Hockey Suffers Setback to #8 Virginia

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Playing its second nationally-ranked opponent in as many games to start the season, William & Mary field hockey suffered a 5-0 setback to No. 8 Virginia on Friday evening.
 
After the teams played to a scoreless opening 15 minutes, the Hoos got on the board midway through the second on a penalty corner. Adele Iacobucci redirected a shot from Amber Ezechiels into the upper part of the cage for the icebreaker in the 23rd minute.
 
W&M trailed just 1-0 at the intermission, but the Cavaliers extended the lead with three goals in the third period, including two just 1:07 apart. Peyton Tollaksen and Annie McDonough scored in the 37th and 38th minutes to give the visitor a 3-0 lead.
 
McDonough added her second in the closing seconds of the third period, and Tollaksen converted her second goal of the evening in the 54th minute to cap the scoring.
 
Senior goalkeeper Kimi Jones finished with eight saves on the evening, including stopping a penalty stroke.
