Field Hockey Drops Narrow Decision at VCU, 1-0

RICHMOND, Va. – William & Mary field hockey suffered a narrow 1-0 setback at VCU on Friday afternoon.
 
The Rams (2-1) converted one of their four first-half penalty corner chances in scoring the match's lone goal. Janne Wetzel converted off an insert and stick stop from Maite and Svea Sturm in the 28th minute for the only goal of the contest.
 
The Tribe (0-3) put six of its seven chances on goal and generated the only four penalty corner chances in the final 30 minutes, but unfortunately could not find the equalizer.
 
Freshman Kellen Richbourg and junior Grace Cornbrooks each paced the Tribe with two shots and the rookie put both of hers chances on cage. Juniors Audrey Domovich, Amber Bode and Lauren Curran each put a shot on goal as well for the Tribe.
 
VCU goalkeeper Sasha Elliot recorded the shutout behind six saves. In goal for the Tribe, senior Kimi Jones tallied three saves, playing the first 45 minutes and sophomore Maddie George played the final 15 minutes and was not tested.
