RICHMOND, Va. – After leading the William & Mary football team to a conference-opening victory on the road at Elon on Saturday, freshman quarterback
Darius Wilson was selected as the
Stats Perform FCS National Freshman Player of the Week.
Wilson, a true freshman who made his third career start, accounted for 293 yards of total offense and three touchdowns in the 34-31 win. The Bronx, N.Y., native completed 14 of 20 passes for a career-high 198 yards with two touchdowns. Additionally, he led the Tribe on the ground and rushed for a team-best 95 yards on 13 carries, highlighted by a 47-yard touchdown scamper.
One of the Colonial Athletic Association's top quarterbacks this season, Wilson ranks second in the conference and 19th nationally in completion percentage (65.1). Additionally, he ranks 7th in the league in total offense (196.3) and eighth in rushing (61.0).
In addition to the national award, Wilson was honored as the CAA Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Following an open date this weekend, W&M will look to extend its winning streak to four games when it hosts UAlbany for Homecoming at Zable Stadium on Oct. 9.
