WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- For the second time in two days Northeastern bested the Tribe, this time by a score of 3-0 Sunday afternoon in Kaplan Arena. With the loss, William & Mary will dip below .500 for the first time all season with a 3-4 record.
For the second straight day,
Lauren Merrill was the Tribe's most effective offensive threat collecting 11 kills.
Julia Brown was held in check amassing five kills despite hitting .308 on the afternoon. It was the first time all season that Brown did not reach double-digit kills in a match.
Brown did lead the Tribe defensively with three blocks in the match.
Amy Schwem added two blocks and Merrill and
Sabrina Malcolm each had one. Schwem also dished out 23 assists and delivered nine digs.
Sydney Taylor also had nine digs in the match and
Anna Porter once again led the Tribe, this time racking up 11 digs.
Northeastern took the first eight points in the opening set and would not look back cruising to a 25-15 win. The second was closer as the teams played to a 6-6 tie before a five point run gave the Huskies an edge they would not surrender on the way to a 25-18 second stanza win despite four kills from Merrill and five digs from Porter. In the final frame, Taylor's defense was outstanding picking up six digs but an early 6-1 run from Northeastern gave them the cushion they would need in a 25-17 clinching set.
The Tribe's offense struggled all afternoon as the team was only able to muster a .085 hitting percentage. Service errors were once again an issue as the team had 10 errors to only two service aces.
Next Up: The Tribe will be off next weekend before returning to Kaplan Arena to face Charleston on October 2-3.
