Late ODU Goal Spoils W&M's Return to Martin Family Stadium

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – A late Old Dominion goal spoiled William & Mary women's soccer's return to Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field on Thursday night in front of boisterous crowd of 833.

ODU's Meghan Watts slotted home the only goal of the evening in the 85th minute to provide the Monarchs (2-1) with the victory in the local derby. The match marked the Tribe's first at Martin Family Stadium in 669 days.

A loud and excited crowd of 833 attended Thursday night's contest, marking the most fans for the Green and Gold in nearly a decade. The last time more fans saw a W&M contest was to kick off the 2012 season when 901 witness the Tribe take on No. 20-ranked Duke.

The Monarchs' Ryan Pancutt provided the assist on the game-winner, making a run at the Tribe defense through the midfield and finding Watts with a diagonal ball into the penalty area. Watts found space inside the top left of the box and finished to the lower right side of the net past a rushing Grace Lemley to give the visitor at 1-0 lead despite protests from the Tribe for offsides.

W&M's best chance of the evening came early off a corner kick. In fact, the Tribe (1-2) put two shots on frame in the opening four minutes of the contest. On the play, junior Kayleigh Shackford served the ball into the mixer and senior Page Frantz got a head to it sending it on frame. ODU goalkeeper Jasmine Crawley was well off her line nealry at the six-yard box and got a piece of it, pushing it up and making the grab to negate the chance.

Crawley finished with two saves on the night in the shutout. Lemley tallied four saves in net and came up with a big 1v1 stop of ODU's Morgan Hall to keep the match scoreless in the 63rd minute.

The Monarchs outshot the Tribe, 15-5, on the evening, while the Tribe held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
