HARRISONBURG, Va. – The William & Mary lacrosse team fell at No. 25 James Madison, 21-8, on Friday evening.
Although W&M (3-8, 0-3) got on the scoreboard first with a goal by
Lauren Russell, JMU (8-4, 2-1) responded with 10 unanswered goals and held the Tribe scoreless for a span of more than 21 minutes.
W&M utilized a 4-1 run that spanned both halves to narrow the margin to 13-6 with 24:45 remaining, but the Dukes closed the game by scoring eight of the final 10 goals to secure the conference victory.
Tribe Standouts
Belle Martire scored a team-high three goals, while Russell found the back of the cage twice.
Sophie Kopec added two points (1g, 1a).
Sarah Cipolla posted a team-high three draw controls, while
Caroline Hertzberg recorded a pair of caused turnovers.
Inside the Numbers
JMU outshot W&M, 41-24, and held advantages in draw controls (23-8) and ground balls (20-14).
The Tribe committed just seven turnovers, while the Dukes had 10.
The Opposition
Isabella Peterson posted a game-high five goals to lead the Dukes, while Katie Checkosky tallied eight points (2g, 6a). Daria Lucchesi added a hat trick off the bench.
Rachel Matey posted a game-high seven draw controls, while Peterson and Lizzy Fox added five apiece.
