WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's soccer suffered a 1-0 setback at the hands of James Madison on Friday afternoon at the Dillard Complex. The Dukes scored the game-winner just over 20 minutes into the second half.
Neither team generated much of a scoring chance in the opening 45 minutes. The Tribe's best opportunity came off the foot of sophomore
Alfredo Bozalongo who sent a shot from distance just high and wide of the upper left corner following a JMU turnover in the 22nd minute.
The Dukes attack started to find the pocket between Tribe's midfield and backline in the second half. JMU's Ethan Taylor had a breakaway chance in the 58th minute but redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Will Stack came up a massive save, coming off his line to block the shot.
JMU broke through for the game's only goal in the 66th minute. Clay Obara had his initial shot from the right side of the penalty area blocked by the Tribe defense. He bounced on the rebound and finished between two Tribe defenders and around Stack into the right side of the net.
Just two minutes after the JMU goal, the Tribe had an opportunity off a free kick. After sophomore
Marcos Villeda drew a foul just outside the top of the 18-yard out, classmate Bozalongo took the free kick, but sent his shot wide of the right post.
As the Tribe pressed late for the equalizer, its best chance came from sophomore
John Andrew Eskay. The Tribe forward gained space down the right flank and cut toward center. He hit a shot toward the upper right corner of the goal from 22 yards out but it was snagged out of the air by JMU goalkeeper T.J. Bush.
