Tribe Volleyball Falls To JMU

WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- William & Mary volleyball fell 3-1 to James Madison Saturday in Harrisonburg. Middle blocker Sabrina Malcolm and outside hitter Sydney Taylor both impressed in their first career starts throwing down eight and 10 kills respectively. 
 
The teams fought to a 2-2 draw early in the first set, but the Dukes used a 9-2 run to open up an 11-4 lead. The Tribe struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the first frame as JMU cruised to a 25-9 opening set win. 
 
In the second, W&M benefited from a 4-0 run halfway through the game to break open a 12-9 lead over JMU. The Green and Gold pulled away to take a 25-21 win to tie the match at 1-1. The Tribe found an offensive stride as Sydney Taylor slammed six kills and Sabrina Malcolm added four. As a team, William & Mary put down 18 kills in the second set. 
 
James Madison took the third frame 25-15 holding the Tribe to a .000 hitting percentage. The Dukes hit .429 in the frame and took a 2-1 lead in the match. Despite a strong effort from W&M, JMU took the fourth frame 25-22 to seal a 3-1 win. 
 
Junior outside Claire Farrell had a solid afternoon slamming a season-high 10 kills in the match. Lauren Merrill added seven point-enders ending her four-game 10-plus kill streak. Madeleine Bertz tossed in six kills and added three blocks. Malcolm added three blocks and Kate Van Houten, Merrill, and added a pair of blocks each. 
 
Anna Porter once again led the way defensively with 11 digs and Van Houten produced 31 assists, eight digs, and four kills in another complete effort. 
 
The Tribe will conclude the regular season tomorrow afternoon as they will once again meet James Madison for a 3:00 p.m. start in Harrisonburg.
