Lax Edged by Radford in OT, 11-10

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary lacrosse team was edged by Radford, 11-10, in overtime at Busch Turf on Saturday evening.
 
Radford's (1-9) Ashlyn Grogan scored the game-winner 1:38 into the extra session.
 
After a 45-minute weather delay midway through the second half, the Tribe (3-4) rallied back from a three-goal deficit to knot the score at 9-9 following a free position goal by Sabrina Schrader.
 
Schrader knotted the score again at 10-10 when she found the back of the cage with 2:08 remaining to send the game to overtime.
 
Tribe Standouts
Schrader led the Tribe with a career-high five goals, coming on just five shots, and two caused turnovers, while Belle Martire totaled five points (3g, 2a) and five draw controls. Sarah Cipolla also found the back of the cage with both her shot attempts and recorded two caused turnovers and two draw controls.  
 
Defensively, Courtney Vasquenza posted three caused turnovers and three ground balls, while Sydney Sloan added two caused turnovers and five ground balls.

Inside the Numbers
W&M owned a 22-19 advantage in ground balls and posted a .526 shooting percentage, but Radford held a 13-10 edge in draw controls and committed two fewer turnovers (20-22).

The Opposition
Ava Goeller led the Highlanders with three goals, while Lindsey Carroll (2g, 1a) and Jessica Diorio (2g, 1a) added three points apiece.
 
Katie Bendrik totaled a game-high 11 draw controls with four caused turnovers.

Notes
With her first goal of the contest, Martire scored her 100th career goal, becoming the 21st player in school history to reach the milestone … The contest marked the first ever meeting between W&M and Radford … Despite the loss, W&M owns a 24 all-time record versus teams currently in the Big South.

W&M will return to action when it hosts Elon for its conference opener next Saturday at 3 p.m. The game will be broadcast by the Lax Sports Network (LSN).
