BLACKSBURG, Va. – William & Mary women's soccer suffered a 3-0 setback at Atlantic Coast Conference foe Virginia Tech on Saturday evening at Thompson Field.
The Tribe (0-1-2) had its chances, equaling the Hokies in shots at 15 apiece. Ten of those W&M attempts came in the second half, including four on goal. The Green and Gold put six shots on goal compared to five for VT.
Tech (7-8, 4-8 ACC) scored twice over a 2:40 span in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into the locker room. Emily Gray, who scored twice on the day, put the home team on the board, slotting home a shot to the lower right corner of the frame in the 30th minute.
Less than three minutes later, the Hokies scored off a free kick. After the initial kick came into the box, Molly Feighan jumped on a deflected clearance attempt and lifted a shot into the upper right side of the goal to give VT a 2-0 lead.
The Hokies tacked on a Gray penalty kick just 10 minutes into the second half for the final margin.
